What is the best eBike ride for a first-time visitor?

For most first-time visitors, we recommend riding the Newport Beach boardwalk from Balboa Pier toward Newport Pier and 32nd Street.

It is a scenic, mostly flat coastal ride with easy access to beaches, restaurants, piers, and harbor areas. We can adjust the recommendation based on your rental time, riding experience, crowds, and weather.

How long should I rent an eBike for?

A two-hour rental is usually enough to explore the boardwalk, Balboa Peninsula, Newport Pier, and parts of Lido Island without making many long stops.

An all-day rental is better if you want to stop for food, visit the beach, explore local shops, ride to The Wedge, take the Balboa Ferry, or continue toward Huntington Beach.

Can I ride an eBike from Newport Beach to Huntington Beach?

The Wedge is located near the end of the peninsula and is especially popular when there is large surf. Riders should keep bicycles and e-bikes on legal paved routes and off the sand.

Can I take a rental eBike to Balboa Island?

Yes. Riders can take the Balboa Ferry between the Balboa Peninsula and Balboa Island with an eBike, subject to the ferry’s current operating rules, capacity, and fare.

Is Newport Beach bike-friendly?

Yes. Newport Beach has a large network of coastal paths, bike lanes, paved routes, and scenic riding areas.

Popular riding areas include the oceanfront boardwalk, Balboa Peninsula, Balboa Island, Lido Island, Newport Harbor, Back Bay, and routes extending north toward Huntington Beach. Riders must still obey traffic laws, posted restrictions, and local speed limits.

Can beginners ride your eBikes?

Yes. Most of our customers can ride our eBikes even if they have never used an electric bike before.

Before every rental, we explain the controls, brakes, pedal assist, throttle operation, safe starting and stopping, and local riding rules. Riders should already be comfortable balancing and operating a regular bicycle.

What is the minimum age to rent or ride an eBike?

Riders must be at least 14 years old. Riders ages 14 through 17 must ride with the permission and supervision required by a parent or legal guardian and must wear a helmet.

Age requirements may also depend on the type and legal classification of the eBike being operated.

Are helmets included with eBike rentals?

Yes. Helmets are included with every Balboa eBike Rentals rental at no additional charge.

California law requires riders under 18 to wear a properly fitted bicycle helmet. We recommend helmets for every rider regardless of age.

Do you accept walk-up eBike rentals?

Yes. Walk-up rentals are welcome whenever bikes are available.

Reservations are recommended on weekends, holidays, sunny days, and during the busy summer season. Booking online is the best way to lock in your desired rental date and starting time.
